General Information

Established in 1981 as a Police Training College and upgraded to an Academy in 1998, SKPA Udhampur is the primary state-level institution responsible for the training and professional development of police personnel in Jammu and Kashmir. Headed by an officer of the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP), it serves as the cradle of leadership for the J&K Police.

The Academy is located at Badali, Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir, approximately 65 kilometers from Jammu city. It is nestled in a scenic and serene environment conducive to rigorous training and learning.

Training & Courses

The Academy offers three main types of training:
  • Induction Courses: For new recruits (Dy.SP, Prosecuting Officers, Sub-Inspectors).
  • Promotion Courses: For personnel transitioning to higher ranks.
  • Specialized Courses: Short-term courses on cybercrime, forensic science, human rights, and more.

Training is a balance of physical and mental skill-building. Indoor sessions involve classroom lectures, legal studies, and interactive case study discussions. Outdoor sessions include physical drills, parades, weapon handling, and tactical field exercises.
